The Chinese information technology giant Huawei has confirmed to have developed its own operating system, which could replace Microsoft's Android and Windows on Windows, in case of prohibition to use products American-made, according to a recent report by the German newspaper Die Welt.

The prospect of being banned from such products has intensified for Huawei as a result of its recent lawsuit against the US government.

"We have prepared our own operating system, and if we can not use these systems, we will be ready," said Richard Yu, Huawei's CEO, according to a translation of the original German text.

A spokesman for Huawei did not immediately respond to Business Insider's comment request on the report.

Huawei is suing the US government for not allowing its federal officials to use the Chinese company's telecom equipment for security reasons. The company stated that the US government failed to provide evidence in support of security claims and that the United States acted unconstitutionally.

Huawei has been working on building its own operating system since 2012, according to the South China Morning Post. The completion of these efforts was not known until the last report of Die Welt.

Huawei currently uses the Android operating system for its smartphones and Windows for its laptops and tablets.

Yu said the company's "plan B" was on Huawei's internal platform and "we obviously prefer to use the Google and Microsoft ecosystems".
