The waterfowl hunting season begins next week, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources reminds hunters.
The goose and teal seasons open on September 1. Hunters can harvest both blue and green winged teals – with a limit of six teals – until September 16. The MNR strongly encourages hunters to hone their duck identification skills, as no other ducks may be slaughtered during the season.
Hunters can capture a total of five black geese – including Canada geese, white-fronted geese (or midges) and brent geese, with a limit of one brant – per day until December 16. Hunters can capture 20 pale geese, including Snow, Blue, and Ross’s Geese, each day of the season.
A Sept. 18-19 hunt is reserved for licensed youth 16 and under and eligible veterans / active duty U.S. military personnel. Hunters can harvest ducks, mergansers, geese, coots and moorhens.
The regular duck season for northeast Michigan runs from October 2 to November 28 and December 11 to 12.
