‘Lord of Rings’ star Ian McKellen, 81, received a coronavirus vaccine on Thursday, becoming one of the first celebrities to get the shot.
“I feel so happy and relieved and upbeat and all that I haven’t really felt for a long time now,” he told reporters. “I couldn’t be happier.”

The British actor received the recently approved Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine at Queen Mary Hospital in London. Despite the shot, he intends to continue wearing a mask.
“I’m going to continue to wear the mask and social distancing and all that, but that means I can imagine going back to work and mingling with people and because I’ll be pretty safe, I feel very special and that” is a very happy day this, I’m a little euphoric, actually. “
McKellen will be back for a second dose of the vaccine in three weeks and has encouraged others to get it.
“I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone,” McKellen posted later on Facebook. “I feel very lucky to have received the vaccine.”
He added that “anyone who has lived as long as me is alive because he has already been vaccinated”.
The first 800,000 doses of Pfizer vaccine in the UK go to people over 80 years old who are either hospitalized or already have outpatient appointments scheduled, as well as nursing home workers. Others will have to wait their turn, but all vaccinations will be provided free of charge through the UK’s National Health Service.
Meanwhile, in the United States, Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine is now being distributed nationwide, ushering in the largest vaccination effort in the country’s history.
