Iced Earth’s Jon Schaffer surrendered to authorities after participating in the pro-Trump riot on Jan.6 on the U.S. Capitol as the Electoral College votes for President-elect Joe Biden were being certified.
WishTV reports that the FBI confirmed Schaffer surrendered around 3 p.m. ET.
“Jon Schaffer, Columbus, IN, was arrested in connection with the January 6 incident at the United States Capitol,” an official FBI statement read. Schaffer faces 6 counts, including that of committing an act of physical violence in a Capitol building. Schaffer was allegedly among the rioters who sprayed the Capitol police with ‘bear spray’.
Photos from inside the Capitol at the time of the riot were posted online by news media photographers and reporters who were also inside, covering the now historic attack.
A widely circulated photo, seen above, showed Schaffer as one of many attendees and fans quickly recognized him as the founder of Iced Earth, quickly tagging authorities on Twitter while revealing his identity to them.
In the hours and days following the insurgency, the District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Department and the FBI worked to identify dozens of perpetrators, sharing images of the outbreak of violence online online. afternoon. The photo that featured Schaffer was among those images, where he was labeled a “person of interest” by police for the crime of illegal entry. The same photo was used by the FBI who then declared it as a “most wanted” target.
The photo shows Schaffer in a blue hoodie, black fingerless gloves and a hat with “Oath Keepers Lifetime Member” written on it. The Oath Keepers is an anti-government far-right militia created in 2009.
The Southern Poverty Law Center, an organization that routinely identifies hate groups and other national threats to civility, said this about the Oath Keepers:

While claiming only to defend the Constitution, the entire organization is based on a baseless set of conspiracy theories that the federal government is working to destroy American freedoms.
Prior to the events of January 6, Schaffer, who lives in Indiana, was in Washington DC at a pro-Trump rally on November 15, eight days after the presidential race call for Joe Biden. I think it goes beyond President Trump. President Trump is a populist. He’s not your typical Republican. He is not from the establishment. He’s not going to start wars everywhere like they do. What’s funny – where are all the Democrats who were against the war?
There is so much hatred for Trump, it’s just ridiculous. He’s dealing with a criminal mafia that’s been in the shadows that has ruled the world, frankly, for a very long time. They want to destroy all of our sovereignty and establish a world government.
We don’t have it. We can still do business together, countries can still be at peace, but we are not going to merge into a globalist and communist system. It will not arrive. There will be a lot of bloodshed, if it comes down to it – trust me.
Americans won’t go for this bullshit – once they figure out what’s really going on. So that’s where we are. No one wants that, but they push us to a point where we have no choice.
