YUCAIPA, Calif. (KABC) – A sad update from an Eyewitness News story reported two weeks ago about an Inland Empire nurse and mother of five who died after a battle with COVID-19.

Her husband was also hospitalized around the same time and now friends say he is also deceased.

Davy and Daniel Macias leave behind five children, including a newborn. The oldest is seven years old.

The Yucaipa couple – who were not vaccinated – likely contracted COVID-19 while on vacation recently.

Davy, a labor and delivery nurse, was seven months pregnant when she fell ill. Doctors delivered her baby after intubation.

Daniel was a college teacher.

“He’s the kind of person who would give you the shirt off his back if you were cold, he’s the kind of person he is. These two people … they’re great people,” said the month. Davy’s last brother, Vong Serey.

Relatives have created a GoFundMe page to help support the Macias family.
