If you did trampoline in Middlesex County, you may have been exposed to measles

Officials on Wednesday announced a potential exposure to measles in a Middlesex County covered trampoline park and in an Ocean County banquet hall.

A New York City resident with a confirmed measles virus was probably exposed at Sky Zone, 600 Hadley Road in South Plainfield and River 978 Banquet Hall at 978 River Avenue in Lakewood, according to the New Jersey Department of Health.

Everyone who visited the Sky Zone on April 22 from noon to 5 pm or the banquet hall on April 23 from 6 pm According to public health officials, April 1, at 1 am, was exposed to this extremely contagious disease.

The Ministry of Health said anyone who visited these places at specific times should contact a health care provider "immediately to discuss a potential exposure and risk of developing the disease".

"If you have been exposed, you are at risk if you have not been vaccinated or if you have not had measles," says a statement from the health department.

Symptoms can develop as late as May 14th and may include rash, high fever, cough, runny nose, and red, watery eyes. Officials urged people to make sure they knew about vaccines.

"Two doses of measles vaccine are about 97% effective in preventing measles," said state epidemiologist Dr. Christina Tan.

"Being vaccinated does not only protect you, it also protects people around you who are too young to receive the vaccine or who can not receive it for medical reasons," Tan said.

Measles spreads in the air by coughing or sneezing. People can become sick because of the mucus or saliva of an infected person. Earlier this week, officials reported more than 700 measles cases in 22 states, the highest since the disease was declared eradicated in 2000.
