If you have this milk in your fridge, the FDA says to “destroy” it

You might want to check the back of your fridge behind those Thanksgiving leftovers this week – an urgent recall notice has been issued for a certain beloved dairy product. According to a new warning issued by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA), a certain brand of chocolate milk has been recalled due to possible cross-contamination. The November 25 recall involves gallons of Prairie Farms premium flavored chocolate milk and gallons of Prairie Farms 1% low fat chocolate milk. It was found that the chocolate milk in question had not been labeled for an egg allergen that might be present, posing a serious risk to anyone with an allergy or sensitivity if they consume eggs.

The problem stems from a valve malfunction at the Prairie Farms production plant in Rockford, Ill., Which resulted in cross-contamination of chocolate milk with eggnog.

According to the FDA report, “Customers who have purchased this product are encouraged to destroy the product or return it to their local retailer to exchange the product for a similar item.”

A total of 1,152 bottles of the affected products were distributed to stores in the Chicago area, including suburb of northern Illinois; Rockford, Illinois; and Southeastern Wisconsin. Potentially contaminated gallons of chocolate milk have an expiration date of December 4. The problem only affected the two named drinks, with the rest of the company’s products all remaining safe to drink.

Egg is listed by the FDA as one of the top eight common allergenic foods. Special care is needed with the egg as it can trigger allergic reactions ranging from relatively mild (hives, itchy mouth) to potentially serious (swelling of the face and throat, difficulty breathing, triggering of asthma attacks, nausea and vomiting). In rare extreme cases, anaphylactic shock can cause a dramatic drop in blood pressure.

Organic Roman Hearts Dole

Dole had to warn consumers of two of its products on November 21, Dole Organic Romaine Hearts and Harvest Organic Romaine Hearts. The articles tested positive for a strain of E. coli—Non-O157 E. coli STEC pathogen — in routine sampling by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.

These products were harvested and packaged almost four weeks ago and should no longer be available in stores, but the warning was still issued to be on the safe side. The contaminated romaine was distributed in Arizona, Hawaii, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, North Carolina, North Dakota and Virginia.

Wegmans beef broth

The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), part of the US Department of Agriculture, issued a public health alert in mid-November regarding the culinary stock of No Salt Added Wegmans beef. The product was not presented for import re-inspection upon entering the United States, and while the beef stock is not believed to be still available for purchase, there are concerns that consumers can have boxes in their pantry or refrigerator. Affected lots have been shipped to New York, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania, so Wegmans buyers in those areas should proceed with extra caution.

Stuffed Mac and Cheese Bites

Massachusetts-based Stuffed Foods LLC recalled 1,818 pounds of its frozen macaroni and cheese bites after a customer complained that the product they purchased actually contained Buffalo-style chicken poppers. The incorrectly included product also contains soy, a known allergen, which is not listed on the label.

FSIS is warning that the mac and cheese bites have been shipped to retail outlets nationwide, but at the time of the recall, no adverse reactions were reported. Albright dog food

Pet owners should also check what they are putting in their dog’s bowl these days. This is because Albright’s Raw Dog Food announced on November 13 that safety tests had been discovered. salmonella in a batch of their chicken dog food recipe, which led to a recall of 67 cases of the popular dog food.

At the time of the Albright dog food recall, one case of animal illness attributable to the food was reported.
