Florida state football saw its second game in as many weeks postponed due to Covid-19, after the Seminoles and Virginia Cavaliers announced the postponement of tonight’s prime-time game. Both postponements came on match day after the opponent’s trip to Tallahassee.
Last week, the postponement was due to a positive Clemson test. This week, a positive test in the Florida State program and contact tracing left the Noles with a limited number of scholarship recipients to play the game.
In a statement released by the school, FSU Director of Athletics David Coburn said:
“Our team underwent the commissioned third-party testing yesterday and learned late last night that we had tested positive. Contact tracing this morning determined that, given churns and injuries, we only had 44 fellows for the game with some job groups almost fully sold out.
“We deeply regret that many fans from Florida and Virginia have already been to the game as well as Team Virginia. We just had no way of knowing we weren’t going to play until this morning. We made every effort to play, but we couldn’t do it in a way that was safe for the players.
FSU and UVA have yet to announce details of a rescheduled match.
