Lincoln Preparation Football
The Lincoln Prep Blue Tigers are your IL Team of the Week after scoring two wins over the East Bears 64-0 on Tuesday and the St. Louis Cardinal Ritter Prep Lions 28-20 on Saturday. Led 20-0 at the end of the first half against the Lions, the Blue Tigers scored 28 unanswered in the second half to claim the victory, in large part thanks to play from senior wide receiver D’eaven Roberson, who recorded 3 catches for 105 yards while keeping the opposing receiver at zero catches that day. Fellow No.2 A’justin Pearson also played a central role in keeping the Lions scoreless in the second half, smashing passes and recording an interception. The Blue Tigers beat the Lions in the second half, rushing for 167 yards and 4 touchdowns, led by senior Jayden Sudduth who had 99 yards on 17 carries, including the game-sealing touchdown with just over 4 minutes to play. .
Athlete of the week
Isaac Rivera, Lincoln Prep
Congratulations to Isaac Rivera of the Lincoln Prep Cross Country Team for being named IL Athlete of the Week. Rivera broke her own KCPS record with a time of 16:18 when inviting Kris Salsberg to Lee’s Summit North High School on Saturday, September 18. The Blue Tigers finished 9th out of 20 teams in the Class 5 competition. With her new personal best, Rivera is now ranked 4th overall in Class 4.
Lincoln Prep had a number of other riders competing in the competition including senior Manuel Reyes (17:31), Kale Wolf (18:35) and Jonas Clark (20:12), junior Albert Turner (22 : 27) and second year Coleman Keck (18:10). On the girls’ side, PR included seniors Estrella Hernandez (22:35) and Emma Rivera (25:39), sophomore Lucy Penrose (28:02) and rookie Lola Clark (29:43). The Blue Tigers travel to Columbia on Saturday for the Gans Creek Classic, a pre-state meet.
Around IL
The Northeast Vikings volleyball team defeated the Central Blue Eagles 3-0 on Thursday, September 16 at Northeast High School. The Vikings dominated in each set, winning 25-18, 25-17 and 25-8. The 3-2 Lady Vikings will host the Ruskin Eagles on Monday, September 20 and the East Bears on Tuesday, September 21.
In other IL Volleyball news, the Lincoln Prep Blue Tigers beat the East Bears 3-1 on Thursday, September 16. Lincoln Prep won the first set 25-21 before East tied it, winning the second set 21-25. The Blue Tigers took control in the third set, winning 25-12 and sealed the game with a 25-16 victory in the final set. Lincoln Prep will host Kauffman on Tuesday September 21 and Northeast on Thursday September 23 in a team battle for first place.
On the soccer field, the East Bears claimed their first victory of the season, a 12-0 victory over St. Joseph Lafayette on September 14, while the Lincoln Prep Blue Tigers improved to 4-2 this year with an 8-0 record. victory over Saint-Joseph Lafayette on September 16.
