Governor Pritzker announced Wednesday that Illinois is considering extending eligibility for phase 1B on February 25 to people with comorbidities and underlying conditions as defined by the CDC. In addition, Illinois will also prioritize people with disabilities.
“As soon as we get enough vaccines, we must not waste time protecting a larger part of our most vulnerable population,” said Pritzker. “Those under 65 and living with co-morbidities, such as cancer survivors or those living with heart disease, have a high risk of serious complications or death if they contract COVID-19. Illinois is moving forward according to CDC guidelines to expand our eligible population as supply permits, bringing us closer to when the vaccine is widely available to anyone who wants it. In the meantime, I encourage all Illinois to wear our masks and monitor mitigation measures so that more of our neighbors are healthy and alive when it is their turn in the immunization line. “

The governor said his office is working with local health departments on the expansion and that areas that have already vaccinated most of their phase 1B eligible residents can expand access by February 25.
The high-risk categories covered by the extension include:
-Cancer
-Chronic kidney disease
COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease)
-Diabetes
-Cardiac problem
– Immunocompromised state of a solid organ transplant
-Obesity
-Pregnancy
-Pulmonary Disease
-Sickle cell disease
In the past 24 hours, laboratories reported 82,885 samples for a total of 16,822,385.
As of Tuesday evening, 2,082 patients in Illinois were reportedly hospitalized with COVID-19. Of these, 464 patients were in intensive care and 232 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators.
The statewide seven-day preliminary test positivity from Feb.9 is 4.0%.

A total of 1,724,325 doses of vaccine were delivered to providers in Illinois, including Chicago, with an additional 428,100 doses allocated to federal partners for long-term care facilities, bringing the total administered in Illinois at 2,152,425.

The IDPH reports that a total of 1,480,079 doses of vaccine were administered, of which 223,790 were in long-term facilities. The seven-day moving average of vaccines administered is 55,135.
The IDPH says vaccine distribution figures are reported in real time and vaccine delivery figures are late for up to 72 hours.
