In the past 24 hours, laboratories reported 97,222 samples for a total of 13,374,665.
As of Thursday evening, 3,992 patients in Illinois were reportedly hospitalized with COVID-19. Of these, 808 patients were in intensive care and 464 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators.

The statewide seven-day pre-test positivity from Dec. 25 to 31 is 9.5%.
The test positivity rate is a measure the state began providing at the end of October. It is calculated using the total number of positive tests out of the total number of tests. It is the metric used by state health officials to make decisions about mitigations.

State-run COVID-19 test sites are closed on Friday for the New Year’s holidays.
Indoor food and bar service is still banned in Kane County, according to state’s COVID-19 mitigation rules, but some people have chosen to ring in the New Year at a South Elgin pub . Stanley restaurant and Ale House defied state orders, offering food, drink, karaoke, and trivia – all indoors – while trying to enforce its own COVID-19 rules.
The owners said they were open for business inside without any citation from the county or state for the past 10 weeks.
