Illinois COVID Update Today: IT Reports 26,062 New Cases, 197 Deaths in Last Week

CHICAGO (WLS) – Illinois Department of Public Health officials on Friday reported 26,062 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 and 197 related deaths over the past week.

There have been 1,564,386 cases of COVID in total, including 24,261 deaths in the state since the start of the pandemic.

The preliminary positivity of the seven-day statewide test from Sept. 3-9 is 5.1%.

As of Friday, September 3, laboratories have reported having tested 578,943 specimens for a total of 29,756,833 since the start of the pandemic.

As of Thursday evening, 2,346 Illinois patients are said to be in hospital with COVID-19. Of these, 549 patients were in intensive care and 311 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators.

As of Wednesday, 14,149,453 vaccines were administered in Illinois. The seven-day moving average of vaccines administered daily is 20,514. As of last Friday, 143,596 vaccines have been administered.
