Illinois residents aged 18 and over no longer have to worry about having their COVID-19 vaccination card with them to provide proof of vaccination against the virus.
The Illinois Department of Public Health on Wednesday launched a new vaccination portal called Vax Verify, which will allow residents to access their COVID-19 vaccination records online.
“As more businesses, events, organizations and others require proof of vaccination, Illinois residents will be able to confirm using Vax Verify that they have been vaccinated against COVID-19, ”IDPH director Dr Ngozi Ezike said in a statement. “With the current increase in cases, more and more people are making the decision to get vaccinated against COVID-19 and this new tool will help residents confirm their vaccination if necessary. “
Nearly 6.5 million Illinois residents have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, and more than 7 million have received at least one dose of a vaccine, according to data from the IDPH vaccine.
In order to upload proof of vaccination, residents must go through a brief, unique identity verification process to access their vaccination history, officials said. The State of Illinois uses the credit reporting company Experian as its provider of identity verification. If an individual has frozen their credit, they will need to unfreeze it with Experian and wait 24 hours before completing the enrollment process. Once registration is complete, individuals can refreeze their credit by contacting Experian.
After the verification process, individuals can see their own record in the Illinois Comprehensive Automated Immunization Registry Exchange (I-CARE), officials say, who say vaccinations are confidential and cannot be viewed. only by the person to whom they belong. Residents with common names will need to take additional steps to securely prove their identity.
The announcement comes a day before the Illinois State Fair opens in Springfield, which requires proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test to access certain events.
