His band Imagine Dragons teased the release of their latest single Follow You earlier this week.

And band frontman Dan Reynolds revealed in a TikTok video on Thursday that the track was inspired by when he nearly divorced his wife Aja Volkman.

In the short clip, the 33-year-old singer says he was on the verge of finalizing his divorce when a text message from his ex-wife upset his “ perspective ”.

Reynolds’ TikTok showed him walking down a rural gravel road while wearing a chunky brown jacket and blue patterned shirt.

“Have you ever received a text that changed your life? his legends began.

“My wife and I hadn’t spoken for 7 months,” he continued to write as he walked silently down the road looking around.

The musician added that he was going to his lawyer’s office to sign his divorce papers, which made it final.

But on the way to the law firm, he received an unexpected text from his ex-wife.

“ She said she didn’t have to own me to love me, ” he wrote. “She loved me without expectation.

So Reynolds and Volkman skipped the meeting and met for lunch instead.

“ It was like the first date again. We called off the divorce, ” he wrote, as his wife jumped into the frame and wrapped him in a hug.

“ Then this guy came, ” Reynolds added as his wife picked up their one-year-old son, Valentine.

Reynolds ended the video by sharing that his new single Follow You was written shortly after his reunion.

“Our children continue to be the most important thing in our lives and we will continue to co-parent them with all our love,” he said in a statement.

In addition to their youngest, the couple also share twin daughters Coco and Gia, three, and an eight-year-old girl named Arrow.

They were originally married in 2011.

But in January 2019, Reynolds revealed the two had reconciled, and over the summer he said the two were attending marriage counseling sessions to strengthen their union.

“ I’ve entered into relationships with this misconception that if everything isn’t perfect and there are arguments, then maybe you’re not with the right person. It’s just not how it works, ” he told People.

Follow You and another single, Cutthroat, will be released on Friday March 12, in preparation for a fifth studio album for Imagine Dragons.
