Russia successfully launched its Soyuz rocket on Friday morning (5 July), putting into orbit the Meteor M2-2 weather satellite and 32 other smaller satellites.
The carpool mission took place from the Vostochny Cosmodrome in eastern Russia at 0841 local time (01:41 EDT or 0541 GMT).
The Russian meteorological satellite Meteor M2-2 will provide Russian meteorologists with images of clouds, the Earth's surface, ice cover, and humidity and temperature, officials said. Russian space agency Roscosmos in a statement.
The rest of the satellites launched on the rocket belong to 12 other countries, such as the United States, Germany, France and Sweden, in addition to three Russian cubesats.
