Saturday will be a very special day for 23 seniors, as Georgian football honors players like Richard LeCounte, Mark Webb, Ben Cleveland and many more ahead of Georgia’s game against Vanderbilt.
The group made up largely of signatories from 2017 accomplished a lot during their time in Georgia. They won three SEC East titles. Won a bowl of rose and a sugar bowl. Will end with record wins against all of Georgia’s main rivals.
And that senior class still has a chance to score the most senior class wins in program history. While Georgia no longer controls their path to the SEC Championship game, it’s a goal Kirby Smart and the team have insisted on.
“I insisted on the point,” said Smart. “I just think it’s something that motivates you. If it’s something that motivates you, you know it. Inheritance is important, it means something. Certainly there have been a lot of large senior classes. I told them that when we were talking about it with the senior class last year, they had the ability to reattach it.
If Georgia played a normal, pandemic-free schedule, the group would have had the chance to break the record comfortably. But due to a 10-game schedule this season, it has increased the difficulty.
But it’s still something the team is focused on.
“They have to win to get into this position. I know that matters to a lot of them, ”said Smart.
