It's been a few years since we heard about Light, the camera company that made the headlines with the L16, a medium-sized camera with 16 lenses, allowing it to capture high-quality DSLR images. The L16 finally went into production over a year ago, but now, Light is working on the multi-lens technology of a smartphone.

The L16 camera operates using multiple lenses at once to capture a focal length image, combining all the data together to create a single 52 megapixel photo. According to a new report the Washington Post Light is already working on smartphone prototypes with this camera, including one with nine lenses on the back.

Multiple prototypes would be in progress, with between five and nine cameras on the back (as shown above), and the ability to capture 64-megapixel photos, while keeping the phone just a little thicker than the camera. # 39; iPhone X. The light did not go into the exact details, but said that its multi The smart phone should be announced later this year.

It was not clear whether Light was developing this phone alone or whether it was working with existing smartphone manufacturers. The other important thing to keep in mind is that the device will not be cheap, with the L16 camera priced at $ 1,950. Dropping the number of lenses to something like new could help reduce costs, but not much. Whatever it is, it is exciting to think that a smartphone with nine lenses might be able to do, especially with dual lens phones becoming the norm.
