2019 iPhones will have the same screen sizes and new antennas, predicts Ming-Chi Kuo

Apple could use a new type of antenna in iPhones that it plans to market in 2019, predicts TF International Securities badyst Ming-Chi Kuo in a note distributed Thursday. .

Apple could opt for an MPI (Modified Pi) antenna compared to LCP (Liquid Crystal Polymers) antennas that it currently uses in iPhones, according to the rating, which was seen by Business Insider.

Kuo also confirmed in the note that he thought that the range of iPhone 2019 would look a lot like this year's, with the same screen sizes, including a 6-model, 5 inches (the same size as the iPhone XS Max this year) and a 6.1. inch model using LCD technology (matching this year's iPhone XR). Kuo also predicts a model with a 5.8-inch OLED display, which is the size used by the current iPhone XS.

According to Kuo, antenna switching has several reasons, including the fact that Apple has weaker bargaining power against current LCP vendors and that new technology can offer performance equal to that of LCP technology. He added that the new MPI technology supports the high frequency bands needed for so-called "5G" or millimeter-wave connectivity.

Excerpt from the note:

The estimate of LCP antenna shipments of the new iPhone models will plummet by at least 70% year-over-year during the 2H19 period . A total of six LCP antennas are currently equipped on the new iPhone 2H18 models (XS Max, XS and XR). We anticipate that the new models of iPhone 2H19, including the new LCD models 6.5 "OLED, 5.8" and 6.1 ", will adopt four MPI antennas and two LCP antennas. We believe that the two LCP antennas of the new models iPhone 2H19 will be shipped exclusively by the Japanese supplier due to its better vertical integration capability.

Kuo is renowned for predicting Apple products prior to their launch, focusing on suppliers of parts sold to Apple .
