Some users report that Google Homes and Chromecasts are not working properly, perhaps as a result of a software update. Google has responded to a bunch of users on Twitter to say that it is working on a fix and will let users know when it has one.

The company also confirmed the question to TechCrunchalthough it does not offer any explanation. Problems with Chromecast seem to prevent users from delivering content. The Chromecast icon has disappeared and no longer allows to broadcast specific applications. Meanwhile, Google Homes seems to be completely unable to process requests, and in some cases requests to be configured again.
