Chancellor of the SIU Carbondale reveals that he is being treated for cancer

As many of you know, I have recently reduced my public schedule to treat back and hip pain. The pain was originally thought to be cysts that have now been treated, thanks to the great team of SIH. With their help, I feel much better.

However, as often happens in these cases, I have more treatments to treat the cause of cysts, which has now been identified as being cancer. I will not go into more details here, except to say that we are dealing aggressively and I am confident that I will be there for a long time.

Although I am not so visible in the coming weeks, I will remain fully engaged as your chancellor and will remain focused on the advancement of our institution. We are on the right path. Over the past year, we have built a strong management team that will expand at this time.

I badure you that all our work of revitalizing the university continues. Earlier this year, Provost Meera Komarraju and his office badumed full responsibility for facilitating academic reorganization. I am grateful for his leadership and the work of our faculty.

Health is an extremely personal matter for all of us, and I felt that it was important to be transparent with you, our new extended family, about it. . My family and I appreciate the support of our many friends and colleagues here in Carbondale and around the world.
