VIJAYAWADA: The Krishna District Administration on Sunday launched "War on Mosquitoes", a campaign employing mobile units to spread awareness on the spread of vector-borne diseases, following orders from the Director of the Health, Medical & Family Welfare Department.
Collector seal Vijaya Krishnan inaugurated the drive by flagging off the vehicles. Just 19 malaria and seven dengue cases have been registered officially since January. In 2017, the figures were 712 and 148 respectively.
Seven vehicles have been allotted to Vijayawada and one to Machilipatnam for the purpose of spreading awareness on how to prevent the spread of vector-borne diseases.
Twenty-nine teams have been set up for the purpose, each one of the health officers, the health educator, the malaria staff for surveillance activities and the three municipal staff members for vector control.
Four teams will share a vehicle and cover 1 to 1.5 lakh people. In the inauguration of the initiative, the Joint Collector said, "We want to fight against mosquitoes and curb the spread of diseases. This year, we have been able to control the spread of viral fevers. (19659003) District Health and Medical Officer T Padmaja Rani said, "During rainy season, the breeding of mosquitoes increases. We have identified hot spots like Umamaheswara Puram and Bapulapadu – where large numbers of cases were reported last year. "
