Breastfeeding could help protect mothers from long-term high blood pressure, suggests a new study. High blood pressure or hypertension is a condition where the force of the blood against the walls of the arteries is too high. It is known that hypertension is relatively common during pregnancy. Lactation can be a way to mitigate vascular risk factors related to pregnancy, including chronic hypertension, gestational hypertension, and preeclampsia.
Findings of researchers Eliana Bonifacino of Montefiore Hospital, Pennsylvania, USA, showed that badfeeding for as little as four months could reduce the risk of high blood pressure in badfeeding mothers, while protecting it against prolonged tracking for years or even decades.
