Government supports immediate approval of R & D and field trials of 5G

NEW DELHI: The NDA government led by Narendra Modi is setting up a special regime allowing companies to immediately authorize fifth generation (5G) research and development (R & D), a senior official said Saturday.

"We set up a special waiver for 5G field trials and R & D for immediate approval, which shows that India is not lagging behind," he said. said Secretary of Telecommunications Aruna Sundararajan, adding that India would not miss the 5G bus.

The government is firmly focused on the next generation of technology and has already created a high-level forum on 5G under the direction of Professor A Paulraj of Stanford University, United States .

The Ministry of Telecommunications (DoT) has already invited historic service providers, such as Vodafone Idea Limited (VIL), Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (State), as well as suppliers such as Cisco, Samsung, Ericsson, Nokia and Huawei.

"The Ministry of Telecommunications is at an advanced stage of discussions with Samsung and those involved in 5G testing," said an official, adding that the ministry had taken a series of steps to implement new technologies. .

Regarding fiber and spectrum requirements, the government, she said, has already signaled the industry and is considering creating a National Fiber Authority (NFA), adding that the ministry had received controller recommendations in the 3500 MHz range, and also examined the 2.4-2.8 GHz spectrum.

"The actual allocation (spectrum) will take place in the second half of 2019," Sundararajan said. She added that the 5G would be deployed according to the robustness of the commercial file of the telecom operators, and that the department, according to her, has already begun to work in this direction.

"The technology is inclusive and we are working with service providers and hope that it should not be confined to urban areas but that it meets those needs," said the manager.

Over the past three years, the government, she said, has doubled fiber infrastructure and has private and public test benches.

In order to deploy services based on 5G, the government has already partnered with various leaders of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) to set up technological standards and propose cases of 39, use relevant for 1.3 billion of Indians.
