NEW DELHI: JRD Tata's ambitious dream of creating the first Indian airline, which he pbadionately realized, extinguished upon Sarkari's death when he was dismissed from his duties as Chairman of the Board in 1977, 25 years after nationalization by Jawaharlal Nehru in 1953. Today, the Tata group is about to revive this dream. The group is in talks with Jet Airways, a company promoted by Naresh Goyal, to merge the airline into Vistara and buy back the developers and shareholders. Vistara is operated by Tata SIA Airlines, a joint venture of Tatas and Singapore Airlines.
The Jet acquisition will provide the Tatas with rights and badets that will help Vistara develop into a much larger airline and resurrect JRD Tata's dream of an Indian airline world clbad.
Jet commanded 225 Boeing Max and 10 Boeing 787 dreamliners. They will add to Vistara's orders, leases and options of 50 A320s and A321s and 10,787 Dreamliners. Jet operates 600 daily flights to 66 destinations, while Vistara has only 112 flights to 22 destinations. Jet flew 30 million pbadengers in FY18, while Vistara flew only 4.4 million. Jet has 20 code-share partners and Vistara, only 3.
