There is something about Manju Warrier that inspires loyalty in the Malayali viewer. She has spent more time out of the industry than in the industry since she made her film debut in 1995, but her superstar status remains unchallenged.

Warrier's first role was Sakshyam in 1995, when she was 17 years old. old. Over the next three years, she participated in 20 productions, including Ee Puzhayum Kadannu (1996), for which she won the Kerala Film Award for best actress, Aaraam Thampuran ]. (1997), and Kannezhuthi Pottum Thottu (1999), which earned him a special mention at the National Film Awards. At the height of his career, at the age of 20, Warrier takes a sabbatical after marrying actor Dileep.

Warrier goes back 15 years later with Rosshan's film Andrews How Old Are You (2014). woman in her thirties trying to recover her life. The film was one of the biggest hits this year.

Since then, scenarios have been written for Warrier. She has interpreted many fascinating characters, notably in Jo and the Boy (2015), Udaharanam Sujatha (2017) and C / o Saira Bano (2017) . Critics have often badyzed the appeal of Warrier. Is it his warm atmosphere that earned him an army of female fans? Is it the plot around her marriage with Dileep, with whom she divorced in 2015? Or the fact that despite her immense success in the 1990s, she chose to leave everything and return to fame?

Warrier will soon be seen in the Malayalam political drama Lucifer also performed by Mohanlal, Vivek Oberoi, Thomas Tovino and Sachin Khedekar. The release of March 28 marks the debut of the director of the actor Prithviraj Sukumaran. The film sees in Warrier another role, that of Priyadarshini Ramdas, a woman who lives on her own convictions. Warrier spoke to Scroll.in about Lucifer and his approach to the acting game.

Prithviraj Sukumaran is one of the most well-known actors of Malayalam cinema. How was he as a director for the first time?
I have never worked with Prithviraj before in any movie. I did not know what he looked like – as an actor or as a person. But he has this reputation of being very meticulous and involved in his films. When I heard that he was going to make a movie, I was very happy. Then, I was offered a story persona. It was a pleasant surprise to be part of a movie.

Once filming began, the feeling that Prithviraj directed the film lasted a day. You forget that he is even an actor. You feel comfortable because you know that he knows what he is doing. He knows what he wants. Prithviraj has clarity and gives you a clear direction as a director.

Lucifer (2019)

Did it give you the impression that you would also like to be a director someday?
Oh my God, no! I would never direct a movie. I always felt that I was far from the belief that we needed this level of film.

How has your experience been since returning to the industry in 2014 with 'How Old Are You'?
Well, technologically, a lot has changed. The films are all digital and shot in high definition. I have never had a great pbadion for technology, so I only know the basics. But everything else is the same – the atmosphere of filming, teams, people, sets. I had the great chance to work with quality people in the '90s and upon my return in 2014.

How old are you (2014).

How are you as an actor?
I am a director actor. I do my best to give what the director wants. I go through the director's script. Then there are administrators who give you the freedom to play a role in your perception. I still stick to what a director tells me.

What roles are you offered and how do you choose them?
I have been fortunate enough to be able to offer various roles since Are you . I receive movie offers all the time. When a new director tells me the storyline, I wonder if I would go to the theater to see this movie. That's how I decide what roles I say yes. It's as simple as that.

Your last two releases in 2018 were 'Aami', in which you played the writer and poet Kamala Das and 'Odiyan'. Both films had strong female characters. How do you prepare for the roles?
I do not do homework or research and I do not prepare for a role. I'm just following the director's thread. For Aami, however, the team did a lot of research for me. For example, how she spoke or her expressions. I am not a specific conscious process. I do my best to deliver.

What matters to you: the commercial success of a movie or winning a prize for your performance
L & # Important for me is the audience's reaction to the film. and to my role in that. I always hope to meet people's expectations. The rewards are a big encouragement. These days, most rewards are decided by the public vote. So it's sort of related to the fact that the audience always plays the most important role.

You have become something of an icon of culture and part of the Kerala Literature Festival in Kozhikode in 2017. conscious reinvention
I have never planned anything in my life. Things happened in a stream. I think I stay a bit detached in some way. But when I talk at literary festivals, I always think about what I'm going to do, what I'm going to say, how I'm going to say, who's the audience. This is not a conscious reinvention, but good things that happen to me.
