I have never worked with Prithviraj before in any movie. I did not know what he looked like – as an actor or as a person. But he has this reputation of being very meticulous and involved in his films. When I heard that he was going to make a movie, I was very happy. Then, I was offered a story persona. It was a pleasant surprise to be part of a movie.
Once filming began, the feeling that Prithviraj directed the film lasted a day. You forget that he is even an actor. You feel comfortable because you know that he knows what he is doing. He knows what he wants. Prithviraj has clarity and gives you a clear direction as a director.

Did it give you the impression that you would also like to be a director someday?
Oh my God, no! I would never direct a movie. I always felt that I was far from the belief that we needed this level of film.
How has your experience been since returning to the industry in 2014 with 'How Old Are You'?
Well, technologically, a lot has changed. The films are all digital and shot in high definition. I have never had a great pbadion for technology, so I only know the basics. But everything else is the same – the atmosphere of filming, teams, people, sets. I had the great chance to work with quality people in the '90s and upon my return in 2014.

How are you as an actor?
I am a director actor. I do my best to give what the director wants. I go through the director's script. Then there are administrators who give you the freedom to play a role in your perception. I still stick to what a director tells me.
What roles are you offered and how do you choose them?
I have been fortunate enough to be able to offer various roles since Are you . I receive movie offers all the time. When a new director tells me the storyline, I wonder if I would go to the theater to see this movie. That's how I decide what roles I say yes. It's as simple as that.
Your last two releases in 2018 were 'Aami', in which you played the writer and poet Kamala Das and 'Odiyan'. Both films had strong female characters. How do you prepare for the roles?
I do not do homework or research and I do not prepare for a role. I'm just following the director's thread. For Aami, however, the team did a lot of research for me. For example, how she spoke or her expressions. I am not a specific conscious process. I do my best to deliver.

I have never planned anything in my life. Things happened in a stream. I think I stay a bit detached in some way. But when I talk at literary festivals, I always think about what I'm going to do, what I'm going to say, how I'm going to say, who's the audience.
