Sinha served as Minister of Health and Family from 2002 to 2003. He then became Minister of the Merchant Navy in 2003-2004. He contested the Lok Sabha elections in Patna Sahib constituency.
However, Shatrughan left the BJP and decided to join the Congress Party. Speaking of the same, he had told ANI: "The membership will be held soon, we will give you positive news during Navaratri, I will join Congress now." Sinha met with Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Thursday, and during the meeting with the press, he said he would soon join the UPA.
