Intel will be the only provider of iPhone modems, the report says.
A first iPhone 5G will probably use an Intel modem, the 8161, and it may enter stores in 2020, according to a report by the company Fast Company.
If everything goes as planned, Intel will be the only one. The iPhone modems provider, says the report.
For prototyping and testing of the iPhone 5G, Intel would work on a precursor of the 8161 called the 8060.
To increase the density of transistors for faster and more efficient, Intel is likely to manufacture the 8161 using its 10 nanometer process.
The 8060's performance seems to have triggered a bit of tension between Apple and Intel due to "heat dissipation issues" that would raise the temperature and reduce the battery life.
However, Apple's current problems with Intel are not serious enough to prompt Apple to call on Qualcomm for the provision of 5G modems, says the report from Fast Company, based on its source. Apple declined to comment on the report.
The first 5G smartphone is expected for next year.
Android phones from manufacturers such as Xiaomi, Oppo and Huawei will contain 5G modem chips manufactured by Qualcomm, which claims that its modems have succeeded. the problems of heat dissipation, according to the report.
