While Apple has so far remained silent about upgrading its MacBook Air family, a new report reveals that Cupertino prefers an eighth-generation Intel Core processor aka Kaby Lake Refresh for the upcoming MacBook Air generation. The company would not expect the Intel Cannon Lake chips that should start in late 2019 with a 10nm design, and opt for the traditional 14nm chips instead. Notably, the existing MacBook Air models launched in 2015 are equipped with fifth-generation Intel Core i5 and Core i7 dual-core processors. Originally, Apple was to launch the new MacBook Air line at WWDC 2018 this year. The company, however, was later delayed the upgrade and decided to bring the new experience in the second half of the year.

According to an Economic Daily News report, Apple's new MacBook Air models will include the Kaby Lake Refresh processors that were released in the second half of last year. The eighth generation chips are available in Core i5 and Core i7 four-core versions, clocked between 1.6 GHz and 1.9 GHz, with Turbo Boost speeds between 3.4 GHz and 4.2 GHz. This is significantly higher than fifth-generation Intel Core i5 and Core i7 processors that power today's MacBook Air models with dual-core processing.

Kaby Lake Refresh crisps were launched in August last year, while Intel plans to launch its Whiskey Lake processors faster in the second half of this year to enhance the experience on laptops and desktops. However, Apple would not favor the next Intel chips for its MacBook Air models. This could be due to keeping the prices of the new models that will be cheaper than the standard MacBook family that has received the newer MacBook Pro models recently. It is also reported that Apple is not in the plans to wait for the Cannon Lake processors that are expected to arrive by the end of 2019, based on the 10nm process.

If one believes a previous report, Apple will launch the new MacBook Air models with a starting price of $ 899 (about Rs. 61,700) or even as low as $ 799 (about Rs. 54,800 ). It is not clear that when we will see the new models. Nevertheless, given the latest report, Apple may launch the MacBook Air range of Kaby Lake Refresh later this year.
