ITANAGAR, November 11: Recognizing that advocacy is a better tool for fighting HIV / AIDS, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein called on youth to raise awareness about HIV / AIDS.
"Young people can play a critical role in raising public awareness of HIV / AIDS, its causes, its mode of transmission and preventative measures," Mein told the grand finale of the multimedia campaign (Red Rockfest ) of the multimedia campaign (MMC) on the Dree field near here Sunday.
Declaring that injecting drug use (IDU) had become the primary mode of HIV transmission, Mein emphasized the need to maintain strict vigilance at all transit points to control drug trafficking.
"A foolproof mechanism is needed to stop the scourge of drugs. including the illicit cultivation of opium, "he said.
Mein said that the state government would fully support the health department for the realization of such Awareness Programs.
Speaking of MMC, Health Minister Alo Libang said, "This is our effort to reach the mbades and motivate HIV testing among people and the treatment of people living with HIV .
"Such an awareness campaign would also help eliminate the stigma badociated with HIV / AIDS and encourage people to volunteer for HIV. screening, "he said, adding that early detection and appropriate treatment can prolong the lives of people living with HIV.
Dr. M Lego, director of health services, said that HIV was a syndrome and that anyone could come into contact with him if he did. was unaware of HIV, its causes, its mode of transmission and its protective measures.
Dr. Riken Rina, project director of the AIDS Control Society of Arunachal Pradesh (APSACS), said the theme of the MMC was "Yes to life! The Minister of Health and Family Welfare launched a musical trip against HIV / AIDS in Yingkion on 14 September.
He stated that the winner of the Red Rockfest would become the ambbadador of the MMC brand to the APSACS for the next year and represent at the regional rock concert competition held in Kohima, in the Nagaland, in February 2019, where all winners from the eight Northeast states will compete for the title.
Previously, Mein and Libang gave the cash prize of 50,000 rupees to the winner, "The Megh". The first second, "AR01", and the second, "The Demon", received respectively 30,000 and 20,000 rupees. The group & # 39; Heatstroke & # 39; received a consolation prize of 10,000 rupees.
