Less than six months after TCL's release of Blackberry Motion, the smartphone giant is back with its latest offering, the Blackberry Key2. Recalling the Blackberry KeyOne of last year, the Key2 contains a physical keyboard as well as improved specifications for 2018.
While the Key2 runs on Android 8.0 Oreo, it has been heavily modified to include BlackBerry's suite of privacy and productivity applications. Here are some of our favorite tips and tricks from Blackberry Key2 to familiarize you with your new smartphone.
How to use Blackberry Hub
Blackberry Hub acts as a universal inbox for all your communications. Text messages, emails, call logs and even some messages from third-party applications are sorted sequentially into Blackberry Hub. The configuration of Blackberry Hub is simple: just tap the hamburger menu icon in the app and tap the icon + next to the accounts.
Once you have configured Blackberry Hub, you can customize it to display and prioritize certain accounts. To create a custom view, open Blackberry Hub and tap the hamburger menu icon. To select Add a view and enter a view name. Select your favorite radio boxes for accounts and filters.
If you want to identify messages from different accounts even more quickly, you can color the text by account. Open Blackberry Hub and select the hamburger menu icon. Tap Settings> SMS> Account Color and select the desired text color. Repeat the same series of steps for each account.
How to use the privacy shadow
Want to keep your eyes wandering while reading your screen? BlackBerry Privacy Shade has you covered. Privacy Shade blocks everything on your screen except for a small viewing area that you can move and adjust.
There are two ways to enable Privacy Shade. The first is to add it to your Quick Settings drop-down menu. Use two fingers to slide down from the top of the screen and select the pencil icon in the lower menu bar. Scroll to the Drag to add tiles section and drag the Privacy Shade icon into the active Quick Settings menu box. You can now enable privacy protection by pressing the corresponding icon in the Quick Settings menu.
If you prefer to use a gesture to activate Privacy Shade, go to Settings> Shortcuts and gestures and switch to the option for Privacy shadow with three fingers. You can now slide your finger from the top of the screen with three fingers to quickly activate privacy protection.
Once you have enabled privacy protection, you can make adjustments based on your needs. If you want a larger area of text, just double-tap the eye icon. To adjust the shape and opacity, tap the overflow icon (three dots) in the privacy screen. Finally, when you are ready to exit the function, just tap the arrow icon.
How to use the Redactor
In addition to Privacy Shade, Blackberry also offers a feature called Redactor. This feature allows you to quickly expunge personal information from any website or document displayed on your screen.
The easiest way to access Redactor is the Quick Settings menu. Simply use two fingers to slide your finger from the top of the screen and tap the pencil icon. Go to Drag to add tiles and find the Redactor icon; simply drag the icon to the active Quick Setup menu area to add it. Now, accessing Redactor is as easy as clicking on its icon in the Quick Settings menu.
Once Editor mode is enabled, you will see a new menu bar at the bottom of the screen. The leftmost finger icon allows you to change the size and shape of the writing tool. The back arrow icon allows you to cancel the most recent copy, while the share icon allows you to share your redacted document. The gear icon allows you to watch a brief tutorial or add a persistent notification. The rightmost arrow-shaped icon comes out of Redactor.
How to map the convenience key
In addition to the custom productivity software, the Blackberry Key2 also has a custom hardware feature to make your life easier. The softkey below the power button allows you to quickly access the applications and features of your Blackberry Key2 at the touch of a button.
There are several different profiles for the convenience key. To configure the default profile, go to Settings> Shortcuts and gestures and select Key of convenience. Press the Add a new shortcut icon and select the appropriate application. Repeat this process until three applications are selected. Once you have selected your Practice Key Apps, you can press the key from any screen to select one of the applications you have chosen.
Three additional profiles can also be activated: a car profile, a meeting profile and a home profile. To activate each profile, touch its icon and switch to the corresponding cursor. You can then add custom applications for each profile.
How to use Locker
One of our favorite features of the Blackberry software is an application called Locker. With Locker, you can easily store private information and applications in a secure area of your phone.
To use Locker, simply press the Locker application. The first time you open Locker, you must set a pbadword to access the application. Once open, you can press + icon to add photos, documents and applications. Because Locker creates a separate instance of any application you add, the data badociated with it will not be visible from the main application. You can also use Firefox Focus in Locker for a secure browsing session that blocks ads and other content that may follow you online.
While you can take private photos directly from the Locker application, Blackberry also provides a shortcut that will allow you to store your images to Locker directly from the camera. Just open the camera and press the fingerprint sensor instead of the shutter button; your photo will automatically be moved to your Google Photos private folder in Locker.
How to keep your battery with Power Center
Power Center allows you to customize the operation of each application on the Blackberry Key2. You can select one of the following three power saving modes: Performance, Balanced, and Energy saving. To add apps, simply open the Power Center app and press Applications and games. Press the + icon, select the application you want to use and switch to the slider. From here you can select the energy saving mode chosen.
In addition to defining power profiles for each application, Power Center also allows you to change the operating system to save battery power. From the Power Center application, you can turn off apps that automatically open in the background, darken the screen, turn off the location mode, and shorten the duration until you reach it. your screen goes off.
Finally, Power Center allows you to automatically activate the battery saver when the battery is low. Open the Power Center application, select Enable battery saver automatically> Change settings and switch to the Battery saver cursor
How to use the Productivity tab
While the Blackberry Key2 has dozens of special software features, the Productivity tab is one of our favorites. The Productivity tab allows you to quickly access common Blackberry applications such as calendar, emails, tasks and contacts, as well as custom widgets by swiping the screen. Home.
When initially setting up your phone, the Productivity tab will be automatically activated. However, you can make adjustments to suit your preferences. To customize the appearance of the Productivity tab, simply open the application and tap the gear icon to open Settings menu. Finally, if you want to add a widget to your Productivity tab, open the application and select the gear icon. How to add keyboard shortcuts
Of course, the physical keyboard on the Blackberry Key2 is nice to type long emails, but did you know that there is a ton of hidden features that you can access directly? In fact, the keyboard features are so robust on the Key2 that we've created a set of tips and tricks just to cover them, but we'll show you how to set up keyboard shortcuts to get started.
There are two types of keyboard shortcuts. The first, the long press method, can only be used from the home screen. To use this method, simply press and hold the key you want to map and wait for the shortcut menu to appear. Once the menu is displayed, you can select common tasks or press Open application icon to select a particular application.
In addition to long shortcuts, the Blackberry Key2 now has a shortcut key that allows you to open shortcuts from any screen. To map a shortcut with the shortcut key, simply press the shortcut key and the desired shortcut key at the same time and wait for the shortcut menu to appear. Once it appears, you can select one of the common tasks or press Open the application icon to map a particular application to the key.
