Swine fever is a highly contagious disease that affects pigs of all ages. It is a very common viral pork disease. Pork is infected through direct contact with infected pigs or contaminated food, waste and water.

The symptoms of swine fever include high temperatures, lethargy off diet, eyelids are closed with discharges, conjunctivitis, coughing, sneezing and constipation followed by diarrhea, weight loss, red spots on the ear, the abdomen of the tail and the inner part of the thigh. Nervous signs such as incoordination of the body during walking, muscle tremors, paralysis and seizures can be observed during pregnancy.

Steps in the Prevention of Swine Fever Disease

1. Piglet vaccination beyond 3 months followed by annual vaccination with swine fever vaccine

2. Always buy your piglet, growerstock from a stock without disease and a well-known reliable source

3. The house must remain clean and dry

4. Balanced diet

5. The pigsty, feeder and water bowl must be washed and disinfected daily with phenyl

6. Provide sufficient clean drinking water daily

7. Remove leftover food and water in the evening

8. Isolation of sick pig from healthy animals

9. Periodic deworming

10. Correct disposition of the death pig by burial
