HYDERABAD: The national oil and gas giant, IndianOil, and the Finnish energy giant, Fortum, announced Saturday the launch of two electric vehicle charging stations in their outlets in Hyderabad. Both companies intend to set up 50 EV charging stations in the city in the near term.

Established on a BOOT basis (build, own, operate, transfer) for seven years, the charging stations will have two DC charging points each of 10 KW or 15 KW of load capacity.

"It will take about 60-70 minutes to load a vehicle, we intend to promote it and so for the first month, this service will be provided free to users," said a senior responsible for Fortum India.

The smart charger can be accessed by the EV user using either Fortum Charge & Mobile Drive App or RFID and the payment must be processed electronically by credit or debit card initially, he added.
According to Jayesh Ranjan, state secretary for information technology and industry, nearly 200 electric vehicles are currently on the road, of which nearly half are private vehicles and the rest are deployed by players like Ola, Zoomcar, among others. "We are in discussion with some of the biggest EV space OEMs and they are ready to bring about 1000 EVs to Hyderabad …", he said, adding that the city will require more stations from refill.

Ranjan also added that the state government will be willing to offer incentives such as special tariffs for electricity tariffs and SGST benefits to EV ecosystem actors for encourage them to invest in the state.

Sanjay Aggarwal, Managing Director of Fortum India Pvt Ltd, said the company plans to set up 150-200 EV charging stations in the country for this exercise. Currently, he has set up four units, including two in New Delhi and two in Hyderabad in partnership with IndianOil.

Nina Vaskunlahti, Finnish ambbadador to India and Bangladesh, also inaugurated one of the virtual vehicle charging stations at the same time as other government officials and companies.
