Did you like your Slack breakdown this morning, maybe with an additional help of memes? Google has confirmed that its Google Home smart speaker and Chromecast streaming sticks are also failing this morning, and this seems to be global.

CNET can confirm that many of our own Google Home devices are completely kaput at the moment, throwing errors like these:

  • "There was a problem, try again in a few seconds."
  • "Hmm, something went wrong, try again in a few seconds."
  • "Your Google Home is not set up yet. To get started, download the Google Home app on a phone or tablet."

The latter is what my own Google Home staff says, and I hope I do not have to start all over again.

Meanwhile, users (including some of us at CNET) no longer see the ability to stream video or audio on Google Chromecasts, even if a Roku Premiere + on the same network Wi-Fi showed the option.

We're sorry to hear that some of our users are having issues with Google Home and Chromecast. We take care of it. Stay tuned for updates

Google tells CNET that it is working on a fix: "We are aware of a problem affecting some users of Google Home and Chromecast: we are studying the problem and working on a solution.

According to previous tweets from the company's @madebygoogle Twitter account, there is no schedule for this fix.

Hey. We do not have a schedule, but be badured that our team is working hard to resolve this – we'll keep you informed. Thank you for your patience.

All of our Google Home devices are not affected by these issues – one in Marietta, Georgia, worked well – but many are. We will let you know when they will be operational again.
