Here's why spending time outdoors is good for you

Washington DC [USA] July 8 (ANI): Living close to nature and spending time outdoors has significant and far-reaching health benefits, concludes a recent study.

Research from the University of East Anglia revealed to the green space reduced risk of type II diabetes, cardiovascular disease, premature death, premature delivery, stress and high blood pressure.

Lead author Caoimhe Twohig-Bennett, of Norwich Medical School, said: we feel healthier, but up to now, the impact on our long-term well-being has not been fully understood.

Green space was defined as open, undeveloped land with natural vegetation and urban green spaces.

The team badyzed how the health of people with little access to green space is compared to that of the most exposed people.

Co-author of the study Prof. Andy Jones, also from the UEA, sai d: "We often take medication when we are not well, but exposure to favorable environments health is increasingly recognized as both the prevention and the treatment of the disease. Our study shows that the size of these benefits may be sufficient to have a significant clinical impact.

The research team hopes their findings will encourage physicians and other health professionals to recommend that patients spend more time in green spaces and open spaces
