Despite being on the list of excluded phone numbers, I managed to make a sort of robocall list where a woman named "Ann" is trying to sell me health insurance . Ann calls at least a dozen times a day from numbers across the country (what a traveler!) To let me know of all available offers. Whenever I stay long enough to talk to a representative so that I can ask him to stop calling me again, he hangs me up immediately.

At this point I have already blocked a handful of "known Ann" numbers, which means that my phone does not ring when she calls from from there, but she can still leave a voice message. If you meet the same thing, I highly recommend it. The process allows me to miss at least four or five calls a day, and I can just clear the voicemail the second time I hear it distinctive "Hi!" Still, Ann is still able to get through other numbers.

This week Google has unveiled a new feature for the Phone application that will make this a lot easier. You can now configure your phone so that every time Google detects that a call is potentially spam, it can automatically return that call to voicemail so your phone does not even ring. To set it up, open the updated Phone app on your Android phone, then tap the hamburger menu (the top three points at the corner) and then Settings followed by Caller ID & Spam.

From there, tap "Turn Caller ID & Spam", then tap "Filter suspected spam calls" to send them directly to voicemail. You can also report a call as spam by accessing the Phone application and watching Recent Calls. Tap the call you want to report as spam, then select "Block / report spam" from the menu (not everyone has the report as spam option). If not, you can simply press Block here, which I did to the good old Ann when she called to return it directly to the voicemail box.

Yes, you still have to deal with the voicemail box that your "Ann" leaves, and a call or two that you want could be sent by mistake, but if you receive a ton of spam calls, it It may be helpful not to ring your phone all day with calls you do not want to answer.

And if you have not already done so, signing up for the list of excluded phone numbers is not a bad idea. Given my current situation, he certainly will not get rid of all the boring calls, but he can at least reduce them.
