Huawei plans to become the first company to launch a foldable phone. Gene Jiao, chairman of the Huawei consumer group for the Middle East and Africa, told indianexpress.com that "this is not a trend, but a trend," suggesting that such a smartphone can be expected from the beginning as next year. But Huawei will be the first to be able to depend on other companies like Samsung.
Jiao did not reveal the features and specifications of the Huawei foldable device, but he is confident that there will be a market for this type of phone. However, it is also certain that such a device will not replace the current format of the phone anytime soon, which suggests that a foldable phone would remain a niche in its infancy.
A foldable phone, he said, should be able to offer incremental value for end-users. "We need it, but we need to know why we need it," Jiao said.
Where there has been a lot of talk about collapsible phones, nothing really concrete going out on time so far. These are not easy devices to manufacture. A foldable smartphone requires special batteries, flexible displays as well as a redesigned user interface taking into account the new screen. Jiao said that "technology is ready" to create a foldable smartphone and that there is "no technical challenge".
According to a report by the July Nikkei Asia Review, Huawei uses flexible OLED displays manufactured by the Chinese technology group BOE. This is the same company that provides the Mate 20 OLED panel.
Jiao said the Huawei foldable smartphone would run on EMUI, based on Google's Android mobile operating system. "EMUI is the best user interface in the world. We are so confident in EMUI, "he said.

. , Android does not yet support phones with flexible displays. We could expect this to be taken into account when releasing the next version of Android. Jiao, Huawei and Google have a close cooperation relationship, and that the former has a deep understanding of the Android mobile operating system, it would not be difficult to change the user interface.
Several leading smartphone manufacturers are currently working on phones with flexible displays that can be folded in half. Samsung, the world's largest maker of smartphones, also expressed the wish to launch such a device early next year. Apple has also developed a foldable phone and has recently filed a patent for a foldable phone that users could fold in half and carry in their pocket.
