Infinix Hot 6 Pro Review: Impressive battery life, but that's not all | technology

Budget smartphones are a dime and a dozen in the Indian market. Most of them live in the shadow of the Xiaomi Redmi series, which has continued to improve in recent years.

But some brands are now looking for new ways to differentiate their devices from others. Phones like Honor 9 Lite and Oppo Realme 1 have come to cool off in the increasingly monotonous segment.

This brings us to the latest Infinix Hot 6 Pro smartphone. With an aggressive price of Rs 7,999, the smartphone ticks all the boxes in the specification department to face the likes of Xiaomi Redmi Y2, Redmi 5A and other Android phones in the Rs 7,000-10,000 category. Featuring a + 5.99-inch HD + display with an aspect ratio of 18: 9, the Infinix Hot 6 Pro looks pretty big in the palms. Considering it's address to multimedia enthusiasts, the big screen can attract the target audience. The display, however, is decent if not extraordinary. While using it, streaming high resolution videos or simple navigation felt smooth. Other elements such as auto-brightness are also quite satisfying. In terms of price, the quality of the display is pretty good.

However, the user interface of Infinix Hot 6 Pro is a little disappointing. The XOS 3.2 too colorful (based on Android 8.0) feels bloated for a long time. There is a little customization on the phone, from animation to general theme application. Fortunately, the inflated operating system does not spoil the overall experience. That said, MIUI from Xiaomi still remains the best custom operating system in this segment. Perhaps, vanilla Android with a minor customization would not have been a bad idea.

Infinix Hot 6 Pro comes with a dual camera configuration with a 13 megapixel and 2 megapixel sensor. The rear cameras come with dual LED flash, portrait mode, professional mode, and more features. Our experience with the camera was a mixed bag. While some shots came out pretty well, especially during macro shots, some were very average. Selfies on this phone are pretty good. However, the Xiaomi Redmi Y2 remains the reference for phones trying to provide the best camera experience in this category.

Performance wise, the phone does not disappoint much. The battery backup is quite impressive and will last all day long single charge for moderate to medium use. You can stretch the phone to play basic racing games, but do not expect the experience to be top notch when you play high end games. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 SoC with a combination of 3GB of RAM is good enough to take care of your daily tasks.

Verdict

Infinix Hot 6 Pro does a good job of providing a balanced experience. The camera and the UI leave room for improvement, but the battery life is excellent. This is still not the killer of Redmi Note 5 but a worthy alternative.
