Two-factor authentication is a very important security parameter in Social security accounts To secure your account, the best-recommended methods always have two-factor authentication

Typically, when talking about two-factor authentication, the most common way is to do it. Adding a phone number For example, Facebook and Instagram use this type of dual factor in common, but when we talk about WhatsApp, there is a second different authentication factor -factor authentication on Facebook or Instagram.

We receive a verification code on our mobile number each time we connect to an unrecognized device, but in the case of WhatsApp, a specific code is defined by the user as second factor

Instagram will update its second-factor authentication choice:

The Instagram has now decided to upgrade its two-factor authentication . According to the news, the company is working on upgrading its two-factor authentication after many sim hacking incidents. The company has therefore decided to provide its users with a secure environment to ensure their security.

Recently Motherboard reported an investigation into the misappropriation of SIM cards. This report made everyone worried about the security of their accounts. Like most of the time, our mobile number is the second factor.

So Instagram started working on the solution to this problem for its users. Instagram is working on something beyond phone numbers. It will now introduce the option of generating code like google authenticator and Authy as the second factor of authentication

Up to 39 now, Instagram uses two authentication factors using the phone number. But after this investigation into the hijacking of SIM cards, many tech companies are worried about hackers who steal phone numbers and exchange them to authenticate with someone else.

Soon, you will be able to check your connection with a code generator application. Right now, Google Authenticator developed by Google LLC is the best choice. It generates random codes each of you must check your connection with a second factor.

What is Sim Hijacking?

In Sim hack or SIM card swap, the hacker first tries to know the basic details of the owner. Information needed to activate or reactivate a SIM card. After that, he calls the help center of this network service provider.

He claims to be the owner of this SIM card and says that he lost the SIM card. When he needs to provide the basic information to activate the SIM card, he has already got this detail from the owner via social engineering or any other method. So, the service center of this service provider thinks that he is the true owner and is blocking your original SIM card. and activate another SIM card with the same phone number.

So now the hacker has access to the phone number, he can easily access and reset each account connected to this number. As; bank account, PayPal, social accounts, Amazon account etc. He can access these accounts, as he has the phone number, he can also receive the OTP too.

Solution:

Never share details such as identity card details, pbadport details, and any other details required for verification purposes. Each network service provider has a specific support number.

Never trust a call claiming to be your network provider unless it comes from this support number. If you belong to a state where biometric authentication is required to activate a SIM card. So do not worry, you are immune to the exchange of SIM cards. But always be careful.
