For starters, where is the party?
It's with a few close friends and their family in New York. I have been gone for a few days and I am very happy to be here, just to browse the streets of the city that I really like. You can say that I am reconstituting myself (smiling).
And New York happens to be your favorite city.
Yes, in fact, a few meetings were already scheduled for Takht – including with the crew of my film – in New York. So I decided to combine it (the trip with work and birthday). But I'll be back in five days because I can not go long because of my babies (Yash and Roohi).
Do you want to call a birthday?
I was excited and much more. from a birthday person earlier. I would just celebrate it and organize parties, etc. But in recent years, I began to feel that it was very ridiculous of me to become so enthusiastic (laughs). Now, I should be more struck by the birthdays of my children and not mine. Yes, it's a great day to feel the love of your loved ones, but I can not be millennial about my birthday. Now, I have to start directing these energies to my children.
Later this year, Dharma Productions will be 40 years old. How do you see his career, especially with you?
It's a great race. I joined Dharma Productions 20 years ago when I created Kuch Kuch Hota Hai in 1998. Since then, I have done my best to keep the Dharma flag in full swing and for that the quality that my father (late Yash Johar) had put. I do not feel like it's a professional baby, but a personal baby. I hope Dad is proud of everything we have done at Dharma. We work as a big family and I think it's a very inclusive organization. There is a complete democracy in everyone's thoughts and opinions.
And now, your production house has new facets …
Yes, we now have Dharma 2.0, which deals with commercials and our digital business. , Dharmatic. I am very grateful to the CEO of our company and my childhood friend, Apoorva Mehta, who brings strong structure and energy to the organization. And I am grateful to all the filmmakers (with whom we have worked), since we have launched more than 15 to 17 of them. We run it like a family of shops and make everyone happy. It does not matter how a film sells, as long as everyone manages to make these movies. We firmly believe in a phrase "ambading good karma to Dharma".

You return to directing a feature film after three years, with Takht. Are you excited or nervous?
I am extremely excited and very nervous because it is a brand new territory and terrain (vintage drama) for me. It's not my comfort zone and that's why it's difficult. In addition, I will film Takht in the 40th year of Dharma Productions, a company built by my father. And I could not have dreamed of a bigger cinematic experience. This is a story in which I firmly believe. It's a period saga and looks like a show, but it's a family film that revolves around family emotions. So, in a way, it's my return to a strong, emotional and dynamic family film space. run for movies. And it's very important to offer people strong films to attract them to theaters because we are fighting fierce competition through the digital revolution, television and sports, and so on.
