Maybach, the luxury subsidiary of Mercedes-Benz, is about to unveil its first-ever SUV at the Los Angeles Auto Show later this month. The Maybach SUV will be based on the all-new Mercedes GLS-Clbad, whose third generation is expected to go into production next year.
In fact, Mercedes has also not revealed the Mercedes GLS 2019, which means that Los Angeles will also mark the debut of the third generation GLS. While the GLS is a seven-seater, like the car that is currently sold in India, the GLS Maybach could be a four or six-seater depending on the configuration. It is said that the new GLS platform has lost a lot of weight compared to the car of the current generation X 166.
We had a glimpse of the exterior style of Beijing earlier this year, but the interior should match the S in the GLS which points to the S-Clbad. The large empaneled wooden dashboard is superbly landscaped with dual-screen display and large air vents. Since it's a Maybach, a small fridge at the rear, fold-down trays and electrically adjustable rear seats will be offered with mbadage options and a multitude of bells and whistles. .
The Maybach GLS powered by the new AMG M177 2.0-liter turbocharged V8 engine with a power output of more than 550 hp, equipped with the latest iteration of the 4Matic all-wheel drive and capable of accommodating the GLS560 badge in the same way as the sedan. A hybrid option GLS560e could also be on the cards. The regular Mercedes-Benz GLS is expected to debut early in 2019, as it approaches its global launch.
As always, we can expect the Maybach GLS to arrive in India soon after its global launch. After all, this is a very active market for luxury SUVs and it will also provide Indians with an alternative to the Range Rover, Lexus LX and Bentley Bentayga.
