Microsoft Releases New Windows 10 Preview with Edge, Skype, Video, Typing, Font and Task Manager Enhancements

Microsoft today released a new preview for PCs with Edge, Skype, Diagnostic Data Viewer, Video, Typing Information, Font, Security, Task Manager, Accessibility, Container, and Mixed Reality Enhancements. This release comes from the RS5 branch, which represents the Windows 10 update that the company plans to release later this year.

Windows 10 is developed as a service, which means that it regularly receives new features. Microsoft has released five major updates to date: November update, Anniversary update, Creator update, Autumn designer update and Update. April 2018.

Edge has a new beta logo (to visually differentiate officially released versions and preview versions) and a new icon for PDF files in the File Explorer when Edge is your default PDF manager. Edge has also received a depth effect in the tab bar to highlight the active tab, facilitate navigation settings, customize the icons that appear in the toolbar and control whether the media can be played automatically (Advanced Settings => Autoplay Multimedia).

Skype for Windows 10 has also been updated with new calling features, a flexible group call pattern, snapshots, a simpler screen sharing, a new layout for contacts, customizable themes and improvements. Microsoft also promises more frequent Skype updates on the Microsoft Store.

The Windows Diagnostic Data Viewer now displays problem reports (incidents and other interrupts) that have been or will be sent to Microsoft. The UI has also been slightly updated to allow you to view the data points by category (right of the search bar) exporting the data (top right).

The videos have a new display mode (Settings => Apps => Video Playback => Set Video Based on Lighting) designed to improve visibility when you are in a very bright environment. This feature uses your device's light sensor to detect ambient light and automatically adjust your video accordingly.

This version can show you how Windows 10 helped you type more efficiently (Settings => Devices => Typing => View insing insights). The software keyboard takes advantage of AI and machine learning to help you be more efficient by automatically correcting spelling mistakes, by predicting the next word, typing suggestions during the hit. Inbox text commands now use the new CommandBarFlyout control, which means you can cut / copy / paste in input boxes, use rich text, and get other enhancements such as animations, acrylic treatments and thorough care.

Until now, installing fonts in Windows 10 required administrator privileges. The Windows 10 April 2018 update brought fonts to the Microsoft Store, which did not require any administrative rights to be installed. Microsoft has now extended this change to include font files obtained from other sources by offering you two options: "Install for all users" (always requires administrative privileges) and "Install" (any user can install a font for his own use).

Windows Security has an Enhanced Current Threats area, a new "Block Suspicious Behaviors" setting, a controlled folder access option, and a new evaluation for the Windows Time service. The tool also integrates more closely with other security applications that you have installed, allowing you to see what is running and open them directly.

Task Manager now includes two new columns in the Process tab to display the power usage, taking into account the CPU, GPU, and disk. "Power Consumption" provides an instant view of applications / services using power while "Power Usage Trend" shows the impact over 2 minutes.

In terms of accessibility, Narrator now launches with a new Quickstart tutorial experience. In the end, there is a link to the User's Guide where you can continue to learn about the Narrator. In addition, the sweep mode secondary action command and the orthographic current selection command have been added, and the text size has been increased under Parameters => Ease of Access => Adjustment of the # 39; s display.

This build adds a new base image to the Windows Server container collection, in addition to the nanoserver and windowsservercore container images. The scalability and reliability of containers that use grouped managed service accounts (gMSA) to access network resources have been improved.

This desktop version also includes bug fixes and the following general enhancements:

This release has 20 known issues:

• When using the dark theme, you may see unexpected light colors on these surfaces in dark and / or dark on dark text.

• Some users will not be able to enable / disable the support of the HDR display.

• There is a known problem in the auto-play dialog where the title of the dialog box is spoken more than once.

• The frequency meter graph sometimes does not appear correctly on known games.
