Vadodara: The situation of waterborne diseases in the Navapura area of ​​the city remained bleak while two other cases of cholera were reported in the affected area. The municipality of Vadodara (VMC) is experiencing leaking water supply in the area that has led to the situation.

VMC sources said 11 new cases of gastroenteritis were reported in the Navapura region and three people were hospitalized. With this, the total number of cases of gastroenteritis in the region increased to 66 even though 16 remained hospitalized.

VMC officials said that one of the cholera cases came from the Shiyabaug area while the other came from the Navapura region. State epidemiologist Dr. Dhimant Thakkar rushed into the city as a result of the epidemic.

Senior VMC officials and Akota BJP MP Seema Mohile also traveled to the area to monitor ongoing work. Residents of the affected areas made furious representations to the officials during their visit.

VMC officials said that 10 leaks had been identified so far in the local water supply lines. One of them had been repaired while work was going on to take care of the remaining leaks. Officials added that Kahar Mohalla in Navapura was the most affected area. The civic corps continued to provide water to the area using tankers.

Physician Corps teams checked 1,790 homes and examined 8,930 people during door-to-door visits on Saturday. The exercise should continue in the coming days to make sure that any case of illness is identified in time and that a treatment is offered.
