Amarillo – TSPT is a post-traumatic stress disorder. It is a mental health diagnosis that someone can develop after experiencing a traumatic event.

Most of us experience traumatic events such as car accidents, badual badault, natural disasters or fighting. Some of us will heal in a few weeks to a month with symptoms like anxiety, depression, or not sleeping well.

About 7-8% of the population will suffer from PTSD in their lifetime. At present, in a given year, 8 million suffer from PTSD or have recovered from PTSD.

There is PTSD educational material available at www.ptsd.va.org where they can educate and find more resources. As for the community, The Pavilion offers inpatient and outpatient services with medications and cognitive-behavioral therapy that is a restructuring of the brain, such as the thoughts and behaviors badociated with this traumatic experience.
