Manisha Gulati, chairperson of the Punjab State Commission for Women, said Wednesday that she had received threatening calls and abusive messages about women. social media after suing rapper Honey Singh for using obscene lyrics in her song.
Honey Singh and music producer Bhushan Kumar were detained by Punjab police for using vulgar lyrics in the song, "Makhna".
"I have received threatening calls and abusive messages on Twitter for filing a complaint against Yo Yo Honey Singh," Gulati told reporters.
"I am not afraid of anyone, I will continue to make my voice heard on such issues," she said.
Gulati said that she had reported the case to the police.
Gulati had previously written to the Secretary of State for the Interior, the Punjab PDP and the IGP (crime), claiming appropriate measures against the singer for using words unacceptable in the song.
Honey Singh was reserved under Articles 294 (punishment for singing and obscene acts) and 509 (punishment for speech, gesture or act intended to insult a woman's modesty) of the ICC.
Police said that the rapper was also convicted under Section 67 (penalty of publication or transmission of obscene material in electronic form) of the 2000 Technology Act. information and the relevant section of the Indecent Representation of Women (Ban) Act, 1986, in Mohali.
Gulati also asked the police to stop Honey Singh as soon as possible.
"It's a lesson for singers like Honey Singh who use reprehensible words against women," she said, adding that the women's panel would now also monitor the other singers to make sure that vulgar words do not end up in the songs.
"If he (Honey Singh) asks for a bond, we will oppose it," she said.
Gulati said that she would ask the chief minister, Capt Amarinder Singh, to set up his own censorship committee to control the vulgar songs. PTI
