It is no secret that Rocket League is one of the biggest games of the moment. Three years after its release in 2015, the game consistently ranks among the top 10 games played on Steam, while it has been successful on many other platforms since then. It would ensue naturally that the developer Psyonix would seek to do twice the lightning by releasing a sequel, right?
Not so fast. In a new interview with GameSpot, the director of the game Rocket League Scott Rudi says that a sequel to Rocket League is actually not the cards. Instead, he says, Psyonix prefers to focus on improving the existing game as a service – an approach that seems to work well for the company.
"We want this to continue," said Rudi about the current state of affairs. Rocket League . "I do not know what I would do with Rocket League 2 I would rather do more to expand the existing Rocket League .It is going well, there are a lot of things going on there. So yes, we have no plan for Rocket League 2 . "
Rudi makes a good point – what would a Rocket League 2 look like anyway ? It's hard to imagine that the basic mechanics of Rocket League change too dramatically in a sequel, and with Psyonix regularly adding new cars, arenas and fashions to the game, it's hard to see what that would create a sequel to the outside
In a few days, Rocket League will kick off his third birthday, which will offer a special 3v3 playlist and the ability to unlock new cosmetics without having to win crates of events. The event starts on July 9 and continues until July 23, giving you two weeks to collect gifts at home. You can read more about the event on Steam in a new developer update.
