Russian Rosatom sends equipment for the Kudankulam N plant

Chennai: Rosatom, the Russian atomic power company, announced on Saturday that its Atomenergomash machinery division had shipped equipment for Unit 4 of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KNPP). In a statement published here, Rosatom said the equipment includes moisture separator heaters. In total, there will be four sets of moisture separator heaters and two sets have already been shipped.

The moisture separator heaters, manufactured by ZiO-Podolsk, a subsidiary of Atomenergomash, are designed to remove condensed water from the treatment process in order to maximize thermal efficiency and reliability of the low pressure turbine. The weight of the separators is 47 tons; their height is about six meters and their diameter of four meters. The shelf life of the product is 30 years. Indian Nuclear Power Plant Operator The Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd. (NPCIL) owns two 1,000 MW nuclear power plants at KNPP, built with Russian equipment. Two other units were set up in Kudankulam. During this time, the first two units are stopped for maintenance work. (IANS)
