Salary increases soon available for WWE superstars?

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE officials plan to increase talent pay later this year.

WWE talent is told that when the new TV deal is paid later this year, probably when SmackDown goes to Fox in October, the new contracts will increase significantly compared to previous contracts.

These contracts were referred to as those of other sports leagues where the talents are signed for a dollar amount and they win, and then, all they win above is either a bonus a percentage of their merchandise sales. The Observer points out that WWE is no longer a live event-driven and pay-per-view business, but a guaranteed rights-based TV business.

The WWE could have a lot of money for the Superstars to sign for deals that include a better salary as they signed two major deals with NBCUniversal (RAW) and Fox (SmackDown) last year, totaling 2.34 billions of dollars over 5 years. It is unclear how much money could be allocated to talent contracts.
