Samsung hires a former employee of Nvidia, could develop its own GPU

Samsung already manufactures a range of crazy products, ranging from washing machines and refrigerators to solid state drives and NAND flash memory chips. According to rumors, the company will also add internal GPUs

Jon Peddie, the prominent badyst and chairman of Jon Peddie Research, notes that Samsung recently hired Dr. Chien-Ping Lu, also known as CP name, manage the development of the company's GPU. CP is an interesting employee, having held the position of Senior Director of Architecture Nvidia from 2007 to 2011 and Senior Director of MediaTeck (2011-2015) and Intel (2015-2016).

According to Peddie, Samsung actively fills its engineering teams in hardware, software, and a few other areas, all of which are GPU-related. The recent addition of CP is to take the company's home GPU across the finish line.

"When you take a business like Samsung, with the biggest and best fabs, the biggest and the fastest, a group of consumer products sells smartphones that cause too many sleepless nights to Apple, and add a design Revolutionary GPU, the first new GPU design in more than a decade, the confluence of capabilities is breathtaking, "says Peddie.

The question is, would Samsung stop there? Peddie discusses the possibility that Samsung is extending its GPU game to other markets, including TVs, game consoles and even PCs.

Samsung says nothing, of course, but he takes positions like AMD and Nvidia. not out of the realm of possibility. Just ask Intel, who recently badembled a graphics team dedicated to the development of discrete graphics.
