Samsung Patent Unveils Pressure Sensitive Food Button Similar to HTC Edge Sense- Technology News, Firstpost

Samsung today issued a patent claiming that the South Korean giant could have even more surprises when launching its next flagship product.

A report of SamMobile indicates that Samsung is working on a new patent that suggests that Samsung could take a few pages from the HTC book and implement its own version of a pressure-sensitive screen that can be triggered by squeezing the phone. The patent entitled "Electronic Device and Control Method of Electronic Device Based on Touch Input" was filed in April 2017 and describes several implementations of pressure sensitive virtual keys.

We may have already seen Samsung implement a pressure sensitive home. Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S9 range button, but in this patent we also see how different pressure levels trigger different actions on the phone. Until now, we have seen HTC phones and even the Pixel phone with a compressible frame, but as Samsung likes to fold the screen over the edges, it left only the parts of the screen sensitive to pressure.

Samsung also described the use of a pressure sensitive power button that, in addition to being the switch on / off button standard, also serves as a reboot and reboot button. Each of these functions is triggered at different pressure levels. By applying pressure, an indicator on the screen indicates to the user which action will be triggered. This indication is similar to the way the alert cursor warns you on OnePlus phones.

There is no way of knowing if and when we will see any of these ideas in future Galaxy smartphones. The virtual house key, for example, is already in use and Samsung could have concluded it as the only useful implementation of the ideas contained in the patent.
