G German students invented a smartphone case that acts as an airbag for a phone, deploying small legs to absorb the impact of a fall.
He fires the shock absorbers from the four corners of the case when the sensors detect that the phone is in free fall. This allows the protective shell to retain the aesthetics of a normal casing, while protecting the device from damage caused by gravity.
The case, which was invented by Philip Frenzel, an engineer at the University of Aalen, Germany, uses a series of eight thin metal loops that normally lie in the interior of the case
. up, protecting the edges of the phone from the impact and softening the shock of a fall.
